Having a social life and spending time with people is important and all, but it is equally important to spend time by yourself every now and again. Spending time with yourself is an important way to get to know yourself and enjoy your own company. In arecent study done by the British Journal of Psychology(explained in more detail here), scientists found that highly intelligent people became less satisfied the more time they spent with friends. In other words, spending some quality time with “me, myself, and I” is greatfor your overall well-being and for a greater life satisfaction. Also, when you’re doing something solo you can think for yourself, you get to discover new things about yourself, and you can improve your self-esteem.
Again, a famous person once said that before you court a person for marriage, you must first court yourself. I completely agree with that, and would even add that before seeking to get to know others intimately, get to know yourself and fall in love with yourself first. This doesn’t mean that spending time by oneself is reserved for single people alone. Just like spending a lot of quality time with a person is the best way to get to know them, spending quality time with (by) yourself is the best way to get to know yourself.
With all of the relationships you have in your life (a loving spouse or partner, wonderful kids, and cherished friends) it probably seems like it’s tough to grab alone time—but it’s important to make room for some. The idea of doing something fun alone may seem daunting or odd when you picture it, but believe me, it really isn’t. Spending time by yourself is a way to recharge your mental batteries and regroup. So get over your fear of being seen somewhere solo, and embark on a mission to treat yourself to dates and quality activities by yourself. Below are some amazing things you should try:

It also gives you the opportunity to try new food you haven’t had before, without having to worry about making coversation.
