Essential oils may seem expensive, but they aren’t as expensive as medical bills. They’ve been used in the past for medicinal and health purposes. History shows that the Egyptians were some of the first people to use essential oils in their medical practice. These oils were also used in the past for therapeutic massage and aromatherapy.

It is true that some medical practitioners label the use of these oils for health purposes ‘quackery’; however some studies may have proven them wrong.

Below are some of the benefits

  1. Boost Immune System

Some of these essential oils have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral and antifungal properties hence the ability to fight infections. Such oils include peppermint, eucalyptus, oregano, lemon, ginger myrrh and cinnamon oils. Studies have shown that these oils destroy pathogens that cause infections.

  1. Hormone Balance

Hormonal imbalance can be seen in conditions like PCOS etc. Essential oils such as thyme and clary sage oils have been found beneficial in such cases. Some essential oils are able to reduce cortisol levels which can help improve one’s mood.

  1. Improved Brain Function

Studies show that some essential oils contain antioxidants that have neuroprotective functions, thereby improving memory, learning and ability to focus.

  1. Reduce Emotional Stress and Anxiety

This is the most commonly known use of essential oils. Essential oils with favorable scents and calming properties are usually employed. They include lavender, jasmine, chamomile, rose etc.

A study found that peppermint oil increases brain oxygen concentration and improves exercise performance.

Some essential oils can be applied topically to alleviate aches and pains. This may include peppermint, black pepper, lavender oils etc
