What is your common source of drinking water? In Nigeria, many people consume plastic bottled water.

In a recent study done, 250 plastic bottles bought in nine different countries were examined and were discovered to have an average of 10 plastic particles per liter.

These tests were conducted in the State University of New York in Fredonia by the Orb Media.

“We found plastic in bottle after bottle and brand after brand”, explained Sherry Mason, a Professor of Chemistry in Fredonia.

Plastics were found in 93% of the samples which included major name brands some of which are available in Nigeria.

“It’s not about pointing fingers at particular brands; it’s really showing that this is everywhere, that plastic has become such a pervasive material in our society and it’s pervading water – all of these products that we consume at a very basic level”

Although its implication on health has not been determined, active studies are being carried out.
