An All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmanship aspirant Shakiru Alabi Balogun has passed on.
Balogun, who ran and lost in the APC Local Government Chairmanship primaries of Igando/Ikotun Local Council Development Area died after a PSP truck crushed his Toyota 4runner at Okofili bus stop, along LASU-Iba road close to Igando dumping site.
Three persons were said to have died from the tragic incident.
According to Punch, Balogun, nicknamed SAB, was a former Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees of the LCDA.
An eyewitness told the press that the driver of the truck fled the scene after the accident.
“The PSP driver fled the scene, but I don’t know if he was later arrested by the police. It was very tragic. The door of the sport utility vehicle was cut with a saw before emergency officials could extricate his body,” the witness said.
Joshua Ogundipe, a resident of Abu Taiwo Street, Akesan, where Balogun lived, said the incident had thrown the community into mourning.
Ogundipe saidd, “He accepted defeat at the primaries in good faith. He was going to the office when the incident happened. He is survived by two wives and four children. He had been buried according to Islamic rite.”
