Football: Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur, Watch the Gunners held back from going to the top of the premier league (video)

Arsenal missed out on the chance to go top of the Premier League as they were held by Tottenham in a closely contested north London derby.

Kevin Wimmer headed Mesut Ozil’s free-kick into his own net under pressure from Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez, who appeared to be offside.

Watch highlights of spur’s own goal and penalty

Koscielny was harshly penalised for a foul on Mousa Dembele in the box and Harry Kane converted the spot-kick on his Spurs return after seven weeks out injured

What a late challenge on Coquelin from Wimmer, who rolls round pathetically and thus ensures a yellow card. It was probably the right decision from the center referee, but Coquelin’s reaction was ridiculous.3256

Tottenham Eriksen has shown brilliance on the pitch of play as he puts Arsenal’s last man Mustafi under pressure with Cech sliding to save Mustafi’s mishit attempted clearance even as Spurs continue to look far more confident than Arsenal.

Sanchez has been impressive for Arsenal but has failed to score even as he hoofs high over the bar from 20 yards in the 30th minute.2300

After a sluggish start, Arsenal have been the better side in the final part of the first half. Ozil’s inswinging free-kick is headed beautifully into the corner by Kevin Wimmer. He was stretching towards his own goal, and had to do something with two Arsenal players behind him – but those two players were offside, so Spurs will feel pretty aggrieved.

The first half ended with a Kevin Wimmer own goal which i feel should have been disallowed, anyways, overall they deserve their lead.

Arsenal goal was the correct decision according to the law and not the referee. Sanchez was offside behind Wimmer, and his presence was probably the reason Wimmer headed the ball. But because Sanchez did not make a direct move towards the ball, he’s not offside according to the laws of the game. What a law really!

Minutes into the 2nd half, A controversial penalty was awarded to spurs as Dembele falls over just inside the box after a tackle from Koscielny, and Mark Clattenburg gives a penalty

The penalty came from a long, winding run by Dembele, who was shielding the ball all the time with his left foot. Koscielny stuck a leg out just inside the box and definitely tripped Dembele. Kane rams the penalty straight down the middle giving spurs an equaliser.images (55)

After a somnolent start, this has developed into an excellent game especially with the draw in the 2nd half, both teams showing tactics and brilliance

Approaching the final part of the Koscielny crucial defensive header from the stretching Vertonghen at the far post denies Giroud a clear headed chance from Sanchez’s inswinging cross.

Spurs, have had more of the ball in the last few minutes. And now Eriksen’s free-kick has hit the post! It was a big inswinger from the left wing that went past the head of Dier, beyond Cech and onto the inside of the far post. Dier might feel he should have scored as well.

The draw means Arsenal stay third, one point behind leaders Chelsea and level with second-placed Manchester City. Tottenham remain in fifth place. This means that Liverpool will go top if they beat Watford this afternoon
