Massive fear has gripped certain Ghanaian fans after the Black Stars of Ghana were drawn in the same 2017 Africa Cup of Nations group as Egypt, Uganda and Mali last Wednesday in Libreville, but former Ghana international Eric Bekoe who is also popular in Egypt says there should not be any fear feeling among Ghanaians.
Ghana is also in the same 2018 World Cup qualifying group with Uganda and Egypt.
According to Bekoe, who became a cult hero at Egyptian club Petrojet, with the right mentality the Black Stars could even defeat the Pharoahs in Cairo in the November 13th World Cup qualifying all-important game.
“I have to say that Egypt rather fear Ghana because of the pedigree of Ghana recently in Africa. Anytime we take big games serious we always win, and we do not even care the venue of the game, we can still go and beat them in there (in Egypt). They rather think about us (Ghana)” Eric Bekoe told Metro FM in Kumasi.
The draw of the African Cup of Nations showed that Ghana, Egypt and Uganda will be facing each other again in the first round of the competition. The three nations were also together in the World Cup Qualifiers’ group. Mali will also be present in this group and will try to defend its chances to qualify to the next round.
The Malian national team is qualified for the 10th time to the last round of the African competition. They will be facing the Black Stars, winners of the African competition four times and finalists in 2015.
Egypt made finally its return to the competition. The most titled nation in the history of the African competition will try to prove that the last years were nothing but a tiny nightmare.
Mohamad Salah‘s teammates will try to take their “revenge” after their humiliating defeat against Ghana in the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers (6-1).
Ghana reached the semifinals in the last four editions and will try to win the trophy this time. The Black Stars have one of the greatest squads in the continent. All the ingredients are available for the Ghanaian to win their fifth trophy.
