Manchester United new-boy Bastian Schweinsteiger has insisted he is fit and eager to impress after training with his new team-mates for the first time in America.

The German World Cup winner is one of four high profile United signings so far this summer and he could be set to make his debut for the club in Friday’s game against Club America in Seattle.

Schweinsteiger ended his long relationship with Bayern Munich as he made the move to United on Sunday and he admits it was tough to leave a club he has been associated with throughout his illustrious career.

“Of course it’s not easy after a long relationship with the club but, in the end, I’m happy to be here,” he told MUTV.

“Manchester United is a big club, I’m here to win titles and that’s what Manchester United is used to. I’m looking forward to playing in the shirt, it was one of my dreams during my career to be here and to play for Manchester United.

“I’m looking forward to that moment, putting on that shirt and playing for a team with great supporters.  I think I’ve played twice at Old Trafford and it was an unbelievable atmosphere.

I remember losing 3-2 here but going on to the Champions League quarter-finals, and at the end the United fans gave us applause, which was very respectful. I liked that a lot and I’m looking forward to playing for this club, but especially for the supporters.

Schweinsteiger worked with Van Gaal during the Dutchman’s time in charge of Bayern Munich, but he insisted his moved to make to Old Trafford was not just because of the familiar face in charge.

“I know him so it was a little bit easier, but it’s not about him, though; it’s more about the club, about Manchester United,” he added.

“It’s such a big club with tradition and quality in the team, and I think we’re capable of winning titles this season. Of course, Louis is a great coach and everything is good, we’ll see how we do in the league.

Schweinsteiger was joined by fellow United signings Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Damian in a light training session in America on Monday evening.
