Netherlands born Georginio Wijnaldum is set to have Newcastle medical as Mapgies agree £14m deal with PSV Eindhoven after a long month of protracted negotiation between both parties.
The st. James Park outfit have finally succeeded in convincing the PSV Eindhoven captain to sign a deal worth close to £14 million .
The PSV skipper is expected in Newcastle this afternoon for a medical and to complete the formalities of his move after the Magpies matched the Dutch club’s valuation of around £14m.
Wijnaldum, 24, is well known to Steve McClaren following his time in Holland as boss of FC Twente and he will be his first signing since taking over at St James’ Park.
Wijnaldum, who has been capped 18 times by the Netherlands, scored 16 goals last season to help his side win the Eredivisie.
He will link up with compatriots Tim Krul, Daryl Janmaat, Vurnon Anita and Siem de Jong on Tyneside once the move is completed.
