A 44 year old man has reported lost his life during a deliverance session in Benin city. Osayande Ekhator attended Hope Ministries, also known as Holy Ghost Deliverance Centre in Benin city on Monday but did not survive the exercise.
The news of his death consequently led to the destruction of the church’s property by angry youths of the community.
“They forced him and tied both his legs and hands, carried a bucket full of water and poured it on his body. The mother asked why and they said that it is what they usually do to calm him down after struggling for five minutes, only for Osanyade to die in the church,” the deceased’s father was heard saying.
The pastor of the church, Mrs Isoken Okudaye has claimed the deceased wasn’t killed intentionally, “We have been taking care of his father without any money; we don’t kill, beat or destroy souls here. If they bring people with insanity here, we heal them.”
Some witnesses have claimed that he was beaten to death while others say he accidentally hit his head on a generator set during the deliverance service.
However, the police are investigating the matter and have promised to make the findings public.
