Irish golf champion Rory McIlroy, has found himself on the wrong side of the moment with a few weeks left before Open Championship.
Rory has ruptured ligaments in his left ankle during a football match but is still in contention for the forthcoming championship since he hasn’t ruled himself out of the Open Championship.
The Northern Irish golfer, who is one of the favourites to lift the Claret Jug, posted a picture of himself on Instagram wearing a support boot.
A statement on said: “Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday. Continuing to assess extent of injury and treatment plan day by day.
“Rehab already started….. Working hard to get back as soon as I can.”
But the 26-year-old has not ruled himself out of defending his crown ar St Andrews next week.
