Reports from UEFA has it that the Spanish football body is contesting the hosting of the world cup by Qatar in 2022.
The Spanish Football Association are requesting for a shift of date from June /July to a much latter date, this move has prompted the European football’s governing body to warn the Spanish league to stop challenging the decision to move the dates of the World Cup in 2022 to November-December.
A Spanish appeal against FIFA’s scheduling decision was filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
To avoid Qatar’s fierce summer heat, the 2022 World Cup is being moved from its traditional June – July slot, resulting in European competitions stopping for around two months.
UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino says the Spanish should accept the decision because it was approved by bodies representing European leagues and clubs.
Speaking after a UEFA meeting in Prague, Infantino says, “It’s a bit sad that people don’t accept decisions taken by a vast majority. You cannot take all decisions unanimously because otherwise you would not take any decision anywhere.”
