The Nigeria Labour Congress has fixed the new date for the election of a new leadership for March 12th 2015, following the cancellation pf the previous elections which were marred by irregularities during the voting process.
The outgoing President of the NLC, Mr Abdulwahed Omar, announced the new date for the elections after a meeting with the NEC and other major contestants in Abuja.
In attendance at the meeting were former NLC presidents which include the pioneer president, Hassan Sunmonu, former president, Ali Ciroma and Adams Oshiomhole, the Governor of Edo state. The pioneer General Secretary, Aliyu Dangiwa was also in attendance.
Speaking about the decision, Omar said, “The closed door meeting has yielded a positive resolution, we have reached a peaceful resolution; we have resolved unanimously that the conference will be reconvened on the 12th of March to conclude the issue of the election that is outstanding.”
Governor Oshiomhole assured that there would be no room for voter manipulation in the next election, explaining that the ballot boxes were rushed which resulted in errors in the previous election.
